Urban centres across sub-Saharan Africa are experiencing unprecedented demographic shifts, rapid industrialisation, and subsequent environmental degradation, placing immense pressure on municipal authorities to maintain ecological balance through sustainable urban planning. However, rapid urbanisation in Limbe, Cameroon, has contributed to the progressive decline of urban green spaces, creating significant challenges for sustainable urban development. This paper therefore examines the role of the Limbe City Council in sustainable urban greening in the city. Specifically, it evaluates the efficacy of the current resource mobilisation mechanisms employed by the Limbe City Council to fund urban greening initiatives. Using advocacy for liberation as its philosophical framework, the study draws on primary and secondary data collected through a mixed-method approach grounded in Resource Mobilisation Theory. It argues that the Limbe City Council appears ill-situated to counteract these escalating vulnerabilities because it relies primarily on restricted municipal budgets, central government transfers, and inadequate revenue-collection mechanisms, partnerships, and community contributions to finance urban greening activities. The study recommends strengthening municipal revenue-generation mechanisms, enhancing technical capacity in urban forestry and landscape management, promoting public-private partnerships, and adopting participatory governance approaches to ensure the long-term sustainability of urban green spaces. These measures could contribute to environmental sustainability, urban resilience, and an improved quality of life in Limbe.
